After two long years away, it was so good to be back at Neocon. The commercial design show serves as a launch pad for innovation and is the most important event of the year for the industry. This year’s slogan was “Design Anew” and although it was quieter than previous years, NeoCon 2021 offered cutting edge furniture design, products, and inspiration around every corner. Here are some of our takeaways:
There has been a trend towards resimercial design for years, but this was even more evident this year. As predicted, the lines continued to blur between residential and commercial design, and we saw super comfortable lounge pieces with extra wide seats. Also trending was soft touch, matte finishes, inviting spaces, and warm comfortable tones.
You heard it here first! Hues of pinks and terracotta are the new craze in commercial design. From fabrics and wall paint to rugs and furniture, it was the star of the show at NeoCon 2021. Paired with these colors were light wood stains and greenery for an organic feel.
Overall, the new desk designs were a contemporary style coupled with efficient storage solutions. Stacked and layered surfaces complemented open cubby-style and shelf storage.
Combining the old with the new. Furniture designers are mixing modern and traditional styles in their surface supports. We saw a lot of thin, angular table bases with mixed materials including warm wood tones and modern metal looks.
NeoCon is our biggest source of inspiration for the year, and we were so glad to be back. We had been missing the energy in the Mart dearly, so this was the perfect event to kickstart designing offices for 2022 and beyond!
